Giving contemporary expression to humanity’s, spiritual, philosophical and cultural traditions.
Leon MacLaren (1910 – 1994) was a philosopher, composer and writer. Throughout his life, he worked closely with artists in many different fields, including painters, sculptors, architects, musicians, dancers, calligraphers, and writers.
MacLaren saw art as a vehicle for revealing deeper truths about our nature and the world around us, not just a form of aesthetic expression. He encouraged artists to achieve mastery over themselves and mastery over their chosen art form. In the execution of their art, he directed them to find harmony between hand, heart and mind, and to connect with the underlying stillness of their actions.
Artists who worked with MacLaren speak of his insistence upon the very highest standard of work, while balancing critical analysis with love and encouragement.
