Ed Murray is a fine sculptor who taught at the Art Academy London before joining Laurence Edwards in East Anglia to learn the bronze casting process. He is now an artist in residence at Waterperry where he produces his own work and runs sculpture courses for adults and children. He is looking to set up a new studio with a foundry for casting bronze sculptures on the Waterperry Estate and develop a programme of weekday and weekend courses.
Ed’s personal journey as a sculptor has led him to the ancient lost wax process of bronze casting, in all its significance and drama – clay, sand, plaster, fire, metal, tactility, ritual, jeopardy, and finally lasting presence.
The new workshop and foundry would be open to other sculptors to produce their own work in a collaborative and creative environment. The courses would be offered to members of the public to try their hand at sculpture, learn about the art of bronze casting and attend live casting demonstrations.
Ed currently works out of a makeshift studio in the triple barns at Waterperry. The plan is to develop this studio to make it fit for purpose, enlarge it to accommodate other artists and equip a small foundry nearby. The course would be run out of a classroom on the estate, making use of the new studio and foundry as required.
Fundraising target: £8,000.
You have an opportunity to help create a permanent studio and foundry to support a community of young sculptors on the Waterperry Estate and a programme of courses in drawing, modelling and foundry skills.
